Who?
We are Christians seeking to unite the Bride of Christ in humble prayer to the Living God on behalf of our communities, our state, our nation and our world.
We Needed God Then,
We need Him NOW.
Our founding fathers knew that just as Psalm 33 teaches, a king is not saved by the multitude of his army, nor a mighty man by his great strength - our nation was not established, and is not kept, apart from the LORD willing it.
That is why on May 24, 1774, Thomas Jefferson drafted a Resolution for a Day of Fasting, Humiliation and Prayer to be observed as the British blockaded Bostonβs Harbor.
That is why on April 15, 1775, four days before the Battle of Lexington, John Hancock declared, βThe 11th of May next be set apart as a Day of Public Humiliation, Fasting and Prayerβ¦to confess the sinsβ¦to implore the Forgiveness of all our Transgression.β
That is why on March 16, 1776 the Continental Congress passed (without dissent) a resolution from General William Livingston declaring:
βCongress....desirous...to have people of all ranks and degrees duly impressed with a solemn sense of Godβs superintending providence, and of their duty, devoutly to rely...on his aid and direction...do earnestly recommend Friday, the 17th day of May be observed by the colonies as a Day of Humiliation, Fasting and Prayer; that we may, with united hearts, confess and bewail our manifold sins and transgressions, and, by sincere repentance and amendment of life, appease Godβs righteous displeasure, and, through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ, obtain this pardon and forgiveness.β
Itβs time for Christians to unite at the state Capitol with thanksgiving for how the Lord has continued to preserve and prosper our nation. With fasting and prayer, letβs intercede for the lost and ask the Lord to pour out His Spirit, so that in these days of deception, the truth will be plainly revealed and undeniable. On this National Day of Prayer, may there be great unity within the Bride of Christ as we humbly seek the Lord together, and may there be a great harvest!
